Recently Departed Carmelite Priests and Brothers (continued)

The Reverend Lambert Yore, O.Carm., died in Washington, DC, on Monday, October 11, 2004, where he was living in retirement.

Two Memorial Masses were held for Fr. Lambert, one in Peabody, MA, and the other at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien, IL, on Saturday, November 13. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, in Chicago.

Francis was born in Chicago, on January 31, 1926, the fourth of seven children to the late John and Anna (Berg) Yore. The family included three brothers John, Lawrence, and William, and three sisters Patricia, Anna and Rosemary. After graduation from St. Rita’s school, he enrolled at Mt. Carmel Prep Seminary in Niagara Falls, Ont., to begin studies for the priesthood in the Carmelite Order. He professed his vows to the Carmelite Order in 1939. On May 20, 1945, Fr. Lambert was ordained to the priesthood in Chicago.

Assigned to the faculty at the Carmelite Junior Seminary in Hamilton, Mass., Fr. Lambert taught Latin and Mathematics. In 1956, he was appointed Director of the Carmel Retreat House there, and also established the Family Vacation Retreats on seminary grounds during the summer. Fr. Lambert was very well known and thought of because of these retreats, and was still meeting with families well after his retirement.

In 1970, when the Carmelite Junior Seminary was sold, Fr. Lambert moved to Our Lady of the Scapular Priory in Peabody, Mass., and continued his retreat and counseling work at the Therese Chapel of the North Shore Shopping Center and other facilities in the area for the next six years.

After a short respite, he served as pastor at Our Lady of Peace parish in Niagara Falls, Ont., and then retired to the Carmelite Community at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, D.C.
