Father David McEvoy, O.Carm., with Chorale
Director, Charles Bruffy

On Sunday afternoon, July 3rd,
we offered a gift to the whole
city of Leavenworth. We sponsored
a wonderful musical experience
for everyone—“the Kansas City
Chorale” in concert. We were treated
to a collection of different types and
styles of music—some Shaker tunes,
Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria, some
American folksongs, including, of
course, Home on the Range, Kansas’
state song.

The concert, given as part
of the parish’s 150th anniversary celebration,
also included a hymn written by Father David in honor of the
jubilee, entitled, “150 Years On This
Hill.” Of special note were “Kansas,
Gem of the World,” which the director
recently found in the archives at the
Library of Congress, and “Pledge of
Allegiance,” written by Charles
Osgood after 9/11 and presented to
us for its Midwestern premier.

This group was truly marvelous
and has performed all over the
world—from Sydney, Australia,
throughout Europe, to Washington,
DC, and Kansas City, their home. This
is their twenty-third season and they
have received many, many musical
awards. There recordings are available
through Amazon.com and Barnes and
Noble. If you missed this group, you
truly missed a great event. |
