Guido Van Hemelryck, pre-novice, and Gregory Houck, O.Carm., are both temporarily teaching at Mount Carmel High School in Houston, Texas, due to the sudden and unplanned influx of students, evacuees from New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina.

Bishop Robert Kurtz, C.R., of Hamilton, Bermuda, concelebrated Mass with Father Kevin Shanley, O.Carm., at the National Shrine of Saint Therese, October 25, 2005. Bishop Kurtz was in the Darien, Illinois, area visiting family at the time.
In April, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Joliet, Illinois, hosted the Mexican Consul General, Carlos Manuel Sada, who spoke to community and civic leaders on the significance of United States/Mexico relations.
The feast day of St. Therese was honored at the National Shrine in Darien, Illinois, on Friday, September 30th, 2005. Above, Brother Eric Bell holds one of her relics for veneration at the mass held that day.

Carmelites Daryl Moresco, Peter McGarry, and Marlon Mateo attended “Costume Capers” at Mount Carmel High School on October 31st as a matador, Elvis Presley, and a Chinese warrior.
Carmelites Joseph-Hung Tran, Viet, Kevin McBrien, and Diep (all in habit) attended the Vietnamese Marian Days in Carthage, Missouri, August 4 -7, 2005. The sign over their heads says, “Order of Carmel.”

Rose petals were just one of the gifts given to the more than 900 attendees at the Mass and other services offered which honored the feast day of Saint Therese, held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Shrine of Saint Therese in Darien, Illinois on Friday, September 30, 2005. The Very Reverend John F. Welch, O.Carm., Prior Provincial, was the presider and homilist for the Mass. During the day, the faithful had the opportunity to attend a talk on Saint Therese by the Prior Provincial, attend Mass, venerate a relic of the saint, and end the day by attending a prayer service and rosary at the shrine, conducted by Brother Eric Bell, O.Carm., Shrine Director.
Dan Sharp (on right) of Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet, IL was selected as Football Coach of the Year by the Illinois High School Association. The coach achieved his100th JCA win on October 15th.
