(Third and fourth from right) Sherry Avila and her husband Commissioner Frank Avila of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, present the Resolution on Father Kevin to the Provincial Council.

“I’m not Irish”, said Commissioner Frank, “but I found his classes very interesting.” Commissioner Frank Avila of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and his wife Sherry wanted to say thank you for Father Kevin’s presence in their lives. They had enjoyed his input in the Irish News Magazine and his Celtic History courses that he conducted at the Spiritual Center in Darien, Illinois. In memory of Father Kevin, a resolution describing his life was inscribed into the minutes of the MWRD’s official municipal proceedings. A copy of this resolution was presented to Father John Welch, O.Carm., Prior Provincial, and to the Provincial Council on May 8, 2007.

The entire presentation and interview of the council members was also filmed and will be seen by three million viewers on Chicago Access Network TV. Sherry Avila is the host for two shows on CAN-TV. Appearing on the show Avila Chicago: Irish Connections, Father Kevin was interviewed by Sherry about Irish women. After his death, Sherry ran a tribute to Father Kevin on her show titled: Fine Arts Lovers. The broadcast included performances by Paddy Homan, an Irish singer from Cork, and ended with a special one minute memorial on Father Kevin.
