LETTERS TO THE EDITOR By Sal Lema Easter was truly joyful this year because of your response to the Carmelite Review appeal. Even today as Spring blossoms make way for Summer warmth the appeal donations continue to pour in; a sign of your recognition for our magazine, its staff, and the good works Carmelites are doing around the world. This year’s donations have far surpassed last year, a testament of gratitude for all of us who put our heart into every issue. As the editor, I am very blessed by your generous response. Know that I personally read each and every response, and will take into consideration your requests in coming issues. Stacked one on top of another your comment cards measured over four inches high. Please continue to write to us and know that your remarks are read and considered. While our magazine hasn’t room to list all of them, here is a sampling with my deepest thanks. Robert M., of Phoenix, Arizona, writes: Your excellent publication brings great joy to realize the Gospel is being spread throughout our troubled world by our gifted and compassionate Carmelites. Barbara L., of Downers Grove, Illinois, writes: We would be interested in knowing how the family of Carmel is doing in Louisiana & Mississippi from Hurricane Katrina. Chuck J., from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, writes: I’m still hoping for a monthly publication, because it is so enjoyable and informative! Teresa S., from Lynn, Massachusetts, writes: It is really a “classy” news magazine. All those responsible for getting this out deserve to be complimented. I especially like the format and the articles are well written. The entire staff is doing a superb job! Marguerite W., from Toms River, New Jersey, writes: In my opinion, Carmelite Review is the best publication about, for, and dedicated to Carmelites. Please continue your extraordinary work. Karen B., from Simpsonville, South Carolina, writes: Our lay Carmelite community recently presented the article about Saint Therese’s parents along with other info about the Martins— we really appreciated your compilation of facts from so many sources. I would love to see more articles of this sort that we can turn into a lesson. Dorothy B., from Teaneck, New Jersey, writes: Thank you for the opportunity to give input. I still have not finished the Fall 2008 issue. I have yet to read the article “Grace Poured Out upon Grace: The Parents of the Little Flower Beatified.” Wow! That article will be a keeper! I very much enjoy the magazine! Elaine C., of St. Petersburg, Florida, writes: It would be nice to have short articles on our lesser known Carmelite saints. Jill S., from Houston, Texas, writes: I really enjoy reading about the Carmelite priests that have touched my life in such a special way. Russell H., from Nokomis, Florida, writes: I enjoy reading about what Carmelites are doing. I like to hear about talks being planned, seminars, and workshops. I like the features you do on individual Carmelites and those who have recently died. As it is, I read it from cover to cover. Nelly A., from Chula Vista, California, writes: I wish we could see some comments in Spanish. Rochelle H., of Las Vegas, Nevada, writes: I love the articles on the Carmelite saints, especially those that are not well known. I honestly cannot think of anything that I do not like about the magazine. Richard H., of Wellington, Florida, writes: Excellent magazine—we enjoy every copy that comes to our home. Dr. Elizabeth B, of Natchez, Missouri, writes: Thanks for this wonderful publication— extraordinary scholarship as well as challenging spirituality! Priscilla F., of Sulphur, Louisiana, writes: You are so right, there are so many reasons to be grateful to God—I enjoyed learning about Carmel in India, the relics of Saint Therese given to the astronaut for his flight; all about the Sisters of Carmel in Louisiana, and the parents of the Little Flower; well to be honest, I enjoy all of Carmelite Review, there is so much to know and to learn. Reading Father Greg Houck’s book review, (The Shack) I read the novel. It really makes you stop to think. God is always with you. Frank B., of Bogota, New Jersey, writes: I cannot tell you how delighted I am to receive the Carmelite Review. I love reading about the success achieved from old dear friends and brothers. Margaret S., of Carefree, Arizona, writes: Excellent publication. You have brought new color/life to the magazine. Sal, I have enjoyed your articles as well as the variety of authors you have garnered to participate. It is a great communication with breadth and variety. And you maintain a nice balance between the older ‘traditional’ interests and the more vital, enthusiastic younger points of view.
