(From left) Dr. Gloria Bollers, Dr. Jones and Georgette Delinois. In April, a group known as the Haiti Solidarity Network of the North East (HSNNE) made a Medical Mission of mercy to Haiti. The group of 25 was led by Georgette Delinois, a proud Haitian American woman who is a clinical social worker and a parishioner of Saint Anastasia Parish in Teaneck, New Jersey. During their visit, the group cared for over 1000 individuals of all ages. The members consisted of a priest, sisters, doctors, dentists, nurses, a psychologist, retired medical personnel, a social worker and several interpreters. One of those who went was Dr. Gloria Bollers, a retired medical practitioner/holistic healer. Listening to Gloria, I felt compelled to share her experience. By Dorothy Hofmann, Parishioner, Saint Anastasia, a Carmelite Church in Teaneck, New Jersey ThI he unimaginable details Gloria shared brought tears—tears that did not even come when I lost my beloved husband and son within months of one another in 2009. Cartons of clothing, soft teddy bears and cuddly animals, crayons, paints and medicines donated by the church community were readied, and the group, including doctors, dentists and psychologists found their way to the airport and boarded separate planes. Unfortunately, the carrier, the only one going there, charged $1,200 before they would accept the bags even though they knew what the mission was about. Once they arrived in Haiti, the group was hosted by a local woman in her home. Much to Gloria’s amazement, this lovely woman is caring for 25 orphans in this same home. It was touching to see how well-cared for each child was as they willingly attended to their assigned chores. The following day, the group journeyed out and saw the makeshift structures that sheltered whole families in the area where they would be of service. A wooden frame, covered by flimsy plastic was little help against the torrents of rain that flowed through the muddy dirt
